Just wanting to say "hi" as I am a newbie here. I have just started level 2 of the Beginners Workshop which I'm really enjoying, and thanks to Leenie for mentoring me.
I live on an island in the northern tropics of Oz with my husband and black lab, the lovely Lucy. We are originally from the north of England so the climate is very different. We came to Australia in 1974 with our two daughters. Our son was born here in 1975. We moved to the Island in 2010.
I am a very big fan of Tombraider and have played all of the games and many of the custom levels.
Many years ago I painted with oils. I've always had an interest in art, photography and computers so what better way to enjoy all of them than with photoimpact

Vandra from another Aussy. I'm glad you enjoy the BW and I do look forward to see all your creations.
Which island do you live on? if I may ask. I came from Germany in 1972 and live in Brizzi ever since.

Hi Hildi, We live on Magnetic Island off the coast of Townsville. We lived in Ingham for 18 years and then Townsville for a few and now the Island. Lots of rain at the moment, tho' we won't complain :) Last edited on Mon Mar 19th, 2012 06:28 am by vandra236

Lovely spot to live.
Haven't been on Magnetic Island or any other. I was on Green Island 1975 when it was still kind of native looking. At that time they just started to plant palms and some years later I past the island on my way out to the reef and didn't like the look of it anymore. Same with Port Dougles. It was such a nice little fishing village and look at it now.

Yes, I know what you mean. One of my daughters has lived in Port Douglas for about 10 years. I really don't see the huge attraction it seems to generate tho' it is a pretty little town.
There isn't a huge tourist industry here on Maggie. A lot of back packers. Suits the locals I think :-). We have some nice restaurants and water sports etc without the big commercial side of it all. No fast food chains either except for the local chippie

Hi Vandra, and Welcome to the PI Board. I'm sure you'll enjoy all the different activities available here and I look forward to seeing your posts. Your island home sounds tropical and very relaxing - a perfect opportunity for taking lovely photos. I guess the fishing would be great there too.

Yes Mary, It is a beautiful place to be. We are very happy to be here. We always thought it would be wonderful to live here and dreamed about it since 1974 (when we first came to Australia). Most of the Island is protected by National Parks & wildlife so fishing is only allowed in two of the bays. You don't have to go far in the boat though to find the fish :-).
