Instructions:
Open a photo or background of your choice: Ctrl D and duplicate: close original: resize if you are posting to the web Select a font that you would like to use:(Cooper Black is the font used in this tutorial). Write your text using a large font size. You may also use a path shape for this tutorial.

You want your object/text in 3D mode. Open your Material box and use the following settings:

Width: 99
Depth:30
Select: More
Shadow: NONE
Light: 1: Direct: Ambient-10: Rotate Light... unchecked
Shading: Metallic: Copper: Shininess-100: Strength-100
Bump: NONE (Can be used)
Color/Texture: White (color can be used)
Bevel: 3D round
Bevel Settings: make sure Smooth Spine is checked
Reflection: NONE (Can also be used be creative)
Transparency: 0
Border: NONE used (Can be used)

Select your Pick Tool Go to: Properties General Merge: from the drop down menu select Hard Light

Now you will have a glass or embossed effect. To give it just a little more depth and definition follow these instructions Make sure you have your text exactly where you would like it to be. You will not be able to move it once you have carried out the following steps.

Make sure your object/text is selected: Rc: duplicate From your Tool panel select the Transform tool: Rc: Edit Attributes: From the drop down menu under mode choose selection: Rc: Convert to Object: Select your pick tool: Go to: Properties and change the Merge back to Always.

Your selection layer should still be active: Rc: Shadow: and choose the shadow that goes around the entire outside of your object or text: settings: Transparency: 25 Shadow size: 100 Soft edge: 2 If you want all of your layers merged: Rc: Merge All

I find this look more professional and classier than the preset and choose to use this when I will be printing my work. Always remember to format your canvas at 300 dpi for printing purposes.

I hope you enjoy using this effect. If you wish to do so, post your results in the Show & Tell forum of the PhotoImpact International Bulletin Board.
