In Memoriam:
Garhardt T. "Gary" Hansen
1932 - 2006

Thank you all for your thoughts, it means a lot to us to know that he was well thought of. Thanks again.

Donna, daughter of Gary, and family.

I love you, Grandpa and miss you very much. You are not forgotten.

Kandie Hansen, granddaughter of Gary.

Gary will remain in our hearts as a kind, generous and fun loving man who gave unconditionally, so much of himself to the community as a whole and to any individual who asked. It was my honor and privilege to get to know him, to work with him and to ultimately become an online friend.

Sparrow - November 24 - 2006.

Gary you will always be in my thoughts, I have learned so much from Gary about animations. He was always willing to help anyone who asked. I am so glad I got to know him even if it was only online. Rest in Peace HLV. You will be missed...

Ginny (Boopalotta) - November 25 - 2006.

I did not know Gary terribly well, but from what I did know he was a very fun loving character. I loved the banter that went on in the animation forum.

He'll be very sadly miss by many friends here in PII. I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to take his cartoon course, I'm sure I could have learned much from this very nice man.
Rest in peace.

Gary was quite the character...

He would always be inviting the new members to the board to join his group of "VRR" (Viking Rabble Rousers). I was most pleased to be invited and join. I'll be keeping my VRR ID card for all times.

He was an ispiration to many of us, and would always encourage people to keep animating with his "Keep 'em coming..."

After he became ill and had trouble even typing, he would still roam the boards, having a look at what we were all up to.

As Gary wrote in an email: "I have been dropping into the animation station and watching the troops going head to toe. You're all making alot of terrific stuff. You all make me proud."

I'm glad to have known you, Gary. You are missed by many, and you will live on in our hearts.

Be at peace, my friend.

Robert - aka Viking Animations - November 25 - 2006.

After reading these tributes to Gary, unanswered questions seem to fall into place.

Last year I received notice from Maggie that a mystery benefactor had paid the course fee so that I was able to do the animation class here at PhotoImpact International. No one would own up to being responsible!

As Gary had always been so encouraging to me (both on-site and by email) I am going to assume that he is the guilty party and say a very late "Thank you my friend" to him.

I just hope that where ever he may now be, that Gary is now able to enjoy the love he has given so willingly to others:)

One of my best memory of Gary was when we were all being split by fence sitters and wizards and HLV and I said im in the angels group!!! What did Gary do. He took my pictures and added wings with helmet on it. It was the best thing I saw and it made me laugh!!! Gary has done some generous stuff for me in the past.

He is one of the MOST generous man I have ever met. He will be missed!!!

Gary was one of a kind and I'm going to miss him terribly. One of the first characters that stand out in my mind is his "Thorro". Oh how he made me laugh. I hope he and Duwayne are shooting the breeze and pool and smiling down upon us.

I'll miss you my friend.

Maggie - November 25 - 2006.

As a newer member of the board, I didn't share as many special memories of Gary as the rest of you. But I always enjoyed his cartoons and delightful sense of humor. He definitely 'touched' all of us and he will be sorely missed.

Gary, I didn't get the chance to know you very long. But thank you for the compliments and encouragement on my new attempts at doing animation in PI.

As a new member of the PIRC community, I didn't have the privilege of meeting or interacting with Gary. It seems I've missed out on knowing someone very special.

Having lost internet friends in the past, I can only imagine how much his loss has affected those of you who knew him well. I offer my sympathy and condolences to all of the PIRC members and Gary's family.

Gary (the Happy Little Viking) was a big part of my Photo Impact life! He was the inspiration for me to animate and I will be forever grateful to him.

Our prayers are with Gary's family and, as the Happy Little Viking lives on, I know Gary will be smiling down upon all of us!

Barry - November 25 - 2006.

Gary also gifted me with P.I.xl upgrade, soon after it came out. He also turned me onto another draw program,Serif Draw Plus 7.

At one time he was into road side poetry (ala the old Burma Shave thing). Sent him some rymes, which he used....I don't think he kept that site going...he was too busy elsewhere.

A generous, fun guy.

Although I didn't know Gary for as long as some others, I am grateful for the time I did. By the time I arrived on the PI Boards, he was already ill and we didn't see him around very much. But when I posted my dancing mannequin, he generously presented me with the VRR (Viking Rabble Rouser) membership card, which I carry with great pride. He also sent me a private email, which ended with his signature "Keep 'em coming!"

His humor was always good-natured and infectious, and he was just such a great guy! His loss is a personal one too each of us in the community.

Go in peace, my dear friend; we'll meet you in Valhalla.

Gary, was very special. His encouragement got me to animate and not be scared. HLV, thanks for the memories.

It's so hard to say goodbye to a friend, but I know he's at peace and he has left his touch on all our hearts. Garhardt was an appropriate name for him because to me it describes him to the fullest meaning in my opinion "Gary A Man Who 's All Heart!" He will be missed very deeply by a lot of people.

Rest in peace my friend.

I took Gary's cartooning class early last year..I loved it and was so impressed with the way Gary could make even someone who didn't even think she could draw feel like they could if they just tried! I will so miss his humor and his cartoons on the PII board!!!

Cindi (glitterby) - November 26 - 2006.

I wasn't on the board very long before I found that the smile or laugh from one of Gary's cartoons was a great way to start my day with my coffee. I will miss that 1st morning smile.

Go in peace and rest well! Keep cartooning!

Thank you Gary for your friendship and the smile you brought to many if not all who had the honour of meeting you.

Valhalla will be a peach compared to Catalina Island and the rest of the world.

Gary was always such an active and helpful member of PIRC; a real mainstay. He was always first with a joke, the first to welcome a new member and first to jump in and help--even with the silly questions.

Somehow though, I think he'll always be with us; if not in person, then certainly in spirit. Gary was one of those who made PIRC....well, PIRC!

I did not know Gary too well, but what I did of him was always kind thoughts. He often made me smile with his sense of humor and was very talented.

So sorry and will miss his presence.

What is there to say..... A fine and good humoured man with a heart of gold. I feel lucky to have known Gary over the years and to occasionally been able to help him out.
You will be missed.

Your friend Nick - December 9 -2006.

In the short time I knew Gary, we became good friends and talked and shared somethings about ourself. His good sense of humor as seen in his cartoons will be missed. I feel so fortunate I learned from this 'Master of the Draw'. I am sorry he's gone but know this 'HLV' is in the Valhalla...from his friend, of Valkyries....

Valery - December 9 - 2006.

It's always a great loss when someone dies... I'm sad eventhough I am not a fervent board member... and did not had the chance to know Gary better.

For all his friends... and family... my deepest sympathy.

I met Gary twice in the pirc chat-room. Unforgettable moments of laughter, learning and generosity. He at once sent me an e-mail with explanations in answer to my questions. He will always have a place in my heart as a great artist and a generous, humerous very special human being.

I regret not having been able to visit his cartooning class at Visual Arts Acadamy.
Thank you Gary
