Ask anyone on the bulletin board, MaryLou has always wanted to have
tea with the Queen. That has not happened as yet, but the Pixel
Art image
above shows how it would look if she did. We also know that
MaryLou's favorite color is blue, so Norma, who created this
image, chose blue for the main color.
As we all know, with web pages, one needs graphics to give it color and make it interesting. Graphic programs were few and not very good when you did find one. I eventually bought a scanner that came with PhotoImpact 3 but sort of ignored it because I had discovered Paint Shop Pro. I was very happy with that - it had lots of colors! Something else I bought came with PhotoImpact 4 and I decided to at least look at it and wow! I was amazed. It was easy to use and so easy to get those 3-D effects. I joined a few groups that used PI and it wasn't long before I realized there were very few resources available for PhotoImpact and decided to do something about it.

1987 - I think this was taken after
I added the third
computer because I see my midi keyboard is now
over on the stand behind me.
That's when PIRC (PhotoImpact Resource Center) sprouted
up. I also started writing tutorials because there weren't very
many available. Since I had run a bulletin board before, it was
a natural progression to start one on the internet. In January,
2001, the PIRC board opened for business and in just the first week
alone, we had 35 new members.
I soon realized that even though many
people loved using PhotoImpact, they had trouble getting started.
That's when the idea of a Beginners Workshop came to life. With
a lot of help from my on-line friends, we set up an awesome three-level
workshop where each person was assigned a mentor to help them as
they went from the very basics all the way to creating a web page.
Debbie Hardisty and her assistant manager, Virginia
(Bearmistress) did an excellent job of managing the workshop and
keeping things running smoothly. PIRC offered free web space (PIRCsites)
so PhotoImpact users could show off their works of art as well as
a royalty free photogallery with photos submitted by users (PIRC
Photogallery). As we continued to grow, other sites wanted to become
part of the PIRC "family". This was the start of the PIRC Network.
Sites that are associated with PIRCNET offer high quality services
to PhotoImpact users.
Due to personal matters in mid 2005, the Beginners Workshop and the PI Photogallery were given to Virginia (Bearmistress), PIRCsites was given to Sparrow (owner of Visual Arts Academy) and the PIRC Board was given to Debbie Hardisty. In January, 2006, the PIRC board name was changed to PhotoImpact International but it still has the same "flavor" and is still a member of the PIRC Network. I spend my time now teaching 2 HTML classes at Visual Arts Academy while enjoying my retirement and talking back to my cat, Callie.
