|Ok, I devised this low sugar Apple crumble as I have to take care of my sugar levels.
By replacing Cooking Apples (which are sharp and require sweetening) with orindary sweeter apples less sugar is required which makes this Apple crumble a healthier version. It's what I call my "Sunday" treat.
Shez's Apple Crumble (lower sugar version)
150g Plain Flour (Gluten free if preferred)
75g Butter or Margarine (Dairy free if preferred)
50g Sugar (use substitute if required reducing quanity)
5-6 Sweet Apples (not cooking apples)
2-4 Drops of Lemon Juice (replace with water if preferred)
Rub the fat into the flour to make a breadcrumb consistency.
Add 25g of Sugar, mixing well. Cover and place in refridgerator until later.
Peel, core and slice the Apples and place into an ovenproof dish.
Pour the Lemon Juice over the apples and stir well.
Add the crumble mix topping over the apples and sprinkle the remainder of the sugar over the top.
Put in oven medium temperature (180 c or 170 fan oven) for 20 - 30 minutes, or until topping is light Brown and Apples are soft.
Tip 1: To soften the applies place them in the microwave for 2-3 minutes before adding the topping.
Tip 2: Replace half the Apples with Peaches and a little of the natural juice to make this an extra special dessert.
Tip 3: Add 25g of Oats, a sprinkling of Linseeds to the flour and 2 tsp of mixed nuts for an extra extra special dessert!
Serve warm with Home-made custard, Creme Fraiche, or Soya Yoghurt.
