I have an animation that 618kb. The gif animator will not optimize it any lower than that. Is there any other way to get this file size lower?

Thanks,

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

this sounds like a big challenge. For a start, you can reduce the size of your animation ( a good size is 300 x 300 ) and than try to go down with the colour from 256 t0 128 or lower.

I found a trick where I can go even lower. I start my canvas with 300 dpi. When you optimize, one don't loose to much colour and one can go down to 64 or even 32 and this will raduce the kb's a lot.

Another thing is, how many frames you have. If you can do with less frames, this will help also.

I hope I could help you and please, show off your animation. I like to see what you are doing.

Hugs

Thanks for your imput Hildi. I got it down to 508kb but I am not even sure what is a good size to have these types of files. Any help is greatly appreciated as I have been away from PI for so long and using the program as well.

Hugs,

Carolyn

It's a lovely animation Carolyn. I think, you could get rid of some frames. The cat is very slow coming out of the box and you may delete a couple of frames there. Have you compressed it as gif? I would go as low as 128 line.

The size of your animation look alright to me.

Have a look at my website. There are always explonations how to optimize.

Thanks so very much Hildi, I will do just go take a look and I will keep working on this.  You are just to kind and I appreciate your help very much.

Well, I started from scratch and this is what I came up with. It is only 174kb. Thanks so much.  Please tell me if you see anything else that I should do differently.

Hi Carolyn, hope you don't mind I took your original animation, (which is very good) into GA and deleted a load of frames (reduced it to 10 frames)which you didn't need and adjusted your timing a bit and got it down to 137kb's. at 256 colour. You can get it down to 113kb's at 128 colour.

I have written quite a few animation tuts for GA (don't know if you know that) and I think this one in particular would interest you. http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~edna_gordon/risenfall.html

My website can be found here http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~edna_gordon/

Have fun!

And i just had to reverse the cute corgi back into his box. This is 190 kb's which is not to heavy for an animation.

A couple of other things that reduce the weight of an animation is to take of any shadows and or give it a white background.

Can anyone tell me of a free animation programme. It has to be free as I cannot, at the moment, buy one!

Hi Margaret,

the gif Animator 5 is a freeware and I have it zipped up for you, but can't send it in this post.

Please, send me your email address and I can send it to you directly.
